In addition to encouraging the public to make a concrete effort to eat better and get more active, the Health Challenge is innovating for 2010 with the addition of the “Wellness” component, for a more global approach to taking care of body and mind!
Participants target the following objectives for the 6 weeks of the Health Challenge:
Goal 5
Eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, a minimum of 5 days a week.
Goal 30
Moving for at least 30 minutes a day, a minimum of 5 days a week.
Goal Wellness
Improving wellness by targeting an objective of one’s among the following:
To go even further, Goals Plus can be added to the basic Health Challenge : ‘’Consuming enough dairy products’’and ‘Improving my cardio health’’.
When they register for the Health Challenge, participants receive different forms of support as they acquire or maintain healthy habits: the IGA kit, the 530HealthAndWellness.ca website, and encouraging emails.
Participants can take on the Health Challenge alone, with family members or as part of a team with friends or colleagues. Work Environments are also encouraged to promote the 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge by disseminating promotional material to encourage their employees to register and adopt healthy habits.
The 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge is presented by ACTI-MENU, which is associated with the Prevention Division of the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI), in partnership with the Québec Public Health Departments, the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services, the Canadian Cancer Society, the “Prends soin de toi” Program and a number of private partners, including IGA, Desjardins Group, TELUS Health Solutions, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Danone, Evian, Exceldor, Multi-Marques, Moov and Curves.
With over 430,000 participants since 2005, support from many work environments and municipalities, not to mention major media coverage, the Health Challenge is a unique health movement.
